Publication Ethics

Jurnal Nawala Politika is an open-access electronic journal that employs a double-blind peer review process. As such, it is dedicated to maintaining ethical standards that are commonly upheld by reputable international journals for all participants involved in the article publication process. The following ethical guidelines are formulated in accordance with the standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Editorial Responsibilities

  • Editors bear full responsibility for all content published in Jurnal Nawala Politika, including the obligation to issue necessary corrections and clarifications.
  • In performing their role, editors must uphold principles of fairness and impartiality, ensuring that all editorial decisions are made without bias related to gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religious and political affiliations.
  • It is the duty of editors to provide transparent and comprehensive instructions to both authors and reviewers involved in the publication process.
  • All manuscript submissions must be managed with fairness, neutrality, and efficiency. Editors are expected to maintain confidentiality throughout the review process, and manuscripts must not be shared beyond what is required for peer review purposes.
  • Editors must establish procedures that safeguard the anonymity of peer reviewers.
  • Decisions on which manuscripts are accepted for publication should be grounded in scholarly merit and informed by reviewers' assessments. These decisions must remain free from external pressures, including those from the publisher, academic departments, faculties, or the affiliated university.
  • Additionally, editors are expected to implement mechanisms for identifying and managing potential conflicts of interest involving themselves, as well as those between authors and reviewers.

Author Responsibilities

  • Authors are expected to adhere to all editorial standards set by the journal, including those concerning its focus and scope, submission guidelines, plagiarism policies, and any applicable publication fees as detailed on the Nawala Politika website.
  • It is the responsibility of the author to affirm that the submitted manuscript is their original work and that any material derived from other sources has been properly cited to prevent plagiarism.
  • Authors must ensure their submission does not include content that is defamatory, violates copyright laws, or infringes on any intellectual property or legal rights of third parties.
  • The authorship listed on a manuscript should truthfully represent those who have made significant contributions to the research and writing process, with the order of authors mutually agreed upon by all contributors.
  • Manuscripts submitted to Nawala Politika must not be under review or accepted by another publication. Any part of the manuscript that overlaps with previously published or concurrently submitted work must be clearly identified and appropriately referenced.
  • If authors include materials—such as figures, tables, or extensive quotations—originating from third-party sources, they are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions for their use.
  • All sources of research funding and other forms of support related to the manuscript should be transparently disclosed, typically in the acknowledgments section.
  • Authors are also required to declare any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the interpretation or presentation of their research.
  • Should a significant error or oversight be identified in a published article, authors must promptly notify the editorial team and collaborate in issuing a correction or retraction if warranted.

Peer Reviewer Responsibilities

  • Reviewers play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of submitted manuscripts by conducting thorough, thoughtful, and impartial evaluations in a timely manner.
  • They are expected to alert the editorial team if they identify any content in the manuscript under review that closely resembles existing published or submitted work, or if there are any indications of possible plagiarism.
  • Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may arise in relation to the article or its author(s).
  • Confidentiality must be strictly maintained regarding all materials and information accessed during the peer review process.
  • The journal maintains the anonymity of reviewers and does not disclose their identities to authors.
  • Reviewers should assess submissions objectively, without bias or personal judgment.
  • Reviewers also reserve the right to request that their comments not be quoted or cited directly by the editorial team.
