THE EFFECT OF CASTOR (Jatropa curcas L.) LEAF EXTRACT ON THE MORTALITY OF Haemonchus contortus WORM WHICH TESTED IN VITRO
Abstrak
Livestock affected by worms will generally have an impact on their productivity, and is a major problem
causes various kinds of losses both clinically and economically. The aim of the study was to determine the
effect of Jatropha leaf extract (Jatropa curcas L) on the mortality of the Haemonchus contortus worm
which was tested in vitro. The design used was a completely randomized design, with treatments of R0
(physiological NaCl 0.9%), R1 (Albendazole 10 mg/ml), R2 (Jatropha leaf extract concentration 10%), R3
(Jatropha leaf extract concentration 25%), R4 (Jatropha leaf extract concentration 50%) and R5 (Jatropha
leaf extract concentration 100%). The results of this study showed that there was no worm mortality until
the 4th hour at R0 treatment, 100% worm mortality at the second hour at R1, 100% worm mortality at
the 4th hour at R2 and and R3 treatments, 100% worm mortality at the second hour after given castor leaf
extract at R4 and R5. In conclusion, treatments R2 (10%) and R3 (25%) were able to kill the Haemonchus
contortus worm four hours after being given castor leaf extract (Jatropa curcas L). There was no difference
in the time of death between R4 (50%) and R5 (100%) with R1 (Albendazole) being able to kill 100%
worms in the second hour.
