Abstrak

Teachers are an important resource to improve the quality of education, and job satisfaction is one of the work attitudes that can improve their performance. Therefore, schools need to understand the factors that can affect teacher job satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of work complexity and workload on job stress, the effect of job stress on job satisfaction, and the mediating effect of job stress on the relationship between work complexity and workload and teacher job satisfaction. The respondents of this study were one hundred and ten teachers in three high schools in Surabaya, which the XYZ educational foundation in Surabaya managed. Data were collected by questionnaire and analysed using PLS-SEM. This study indicates that work complexity and workload have a positive effect on job stress, and job stress mediates the relationship between work complexity and workload and job satisfaction. Different from the hypothesis, job stress has a positive effect on job satisfaction.
