POTENSI EKSTRAK AIR DAUN GAHARU (Gyrinops versteegii) DALAM MENURUNKAN KADAR KOLESTEROL TOTAL PADA TIKUS WISTAR HIPERKOLESTEROLEMIA
Abstract
Radikal bebas berlebih dalam tubuh dapat menimbulkan berbagai macam penyakit degenerative yang berbahaya, salah satunya dapat menyebabkan hiperkolesterolemia. Senyawa yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan dapat meredam radikal bebas yang merusak sel dalam tubuh. Gaharu (Gyrinops versteegii) banyak dimanfaatkan sebagai obat tradisional karena aktivitasnya sebagai senyawa antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan potensi ekstrak air daun gaharu (Gyrinops versteegii) dalam menurunkan kadar kolesterol total dalam darah tikus wistar yang hiperkolesterolemia. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah One-group Pretest-Posttest Design, untuk mengetahui penurunan kadar kolesterol total pada darah tikus. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ekstrak air daun gaharu dengan dosis 50, 100 dan 200 mg/kgBB dapat menurunkan kadar kolesterol total dalam darah tikus wistar yang hiperkolesterolemia dengan nilai rata-rata secara berturut-turut yaitu: 34,6 ; 43 ; dan 72,2 mg/dL.

ABSTRACT
Excessive free radicals in the body can cause various kinds of dangerous degenerative diseases, which one of them is hypercholesterolemia. Compounds having antioxidant activity can reduce free radicals that damage cells in the body. Agarwood (Gyrinops versteegii) is widely used as traditional medicine because of its activity as an antioxidant compound. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of water extract of agarwood (Gyrinops versteegii) leaves in reducing the total cholesterol in the blood of hypercholesterolemic wistar rats. The research method used was One-group Pretest-Posttest Design, to determine clearly the decrease in total cholesterol in the blood of rats. The results of the study after treatment showed that the water extract of agarwood leaves at a dose of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg BW could reduce the total cholesterol levels in the blood of hypercholesterolemic wistar rats by an average value of 34.6; 43; and 72.2 mg/dL, respectively.
