Abstract

ABSTRACT

Medicinal plants are a group of plants, composed of several active compounds namely terpenoid, flavonoid, xantones, as well as trace elements that might contribute to disease prevention. Many researches had been conducted to prove the benefit of medicinal plants. Many studies had showed the hepatoprotective, antioxidant, antiinflammatory, hypoglycemic and antimycrobial effect of some medicinal plants, such as kunir putih and purple sweet potato. One of the strategy for continued development in rural area is increased, centered and plantation of medicinal plants. Medicinal plants had been successfully yielded in rural area. In spite of the successfull plantation, the use of such medicinal plants for health was still minimal. This was assumed to be related to lack of knowledge and skill in processing the medicinal plants. This program aimed to increase the knowledge and skill among participants (PKK of Mambang Village, East Selemadeg, Tabanan) in processing medicinal plants into herbal tea and syrup that were ready to be consumed and marketed. The methods were lecturing and continued-practicing. The outputs are herbal products (in the form of tea, syrup and jamu that are ready to be marketed) and national publication.
