REPRESENTASI “BALI NOW” PADA AKUN X @Denpasarkeras DALAM PERSPEKTIF ANALISIS WACANA
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the representation of "Bali Now" through posts on the social media platform X, specifically the account @Denpasarkeras, which is known for delivering social criticism on Bali's cultural, social, and tourism issues through humor and sarcasm. Using John Searle's speech act theory, the study examines the functions of utterances, while Stuart Hall's representation theory is applied to analyze the meanings constructed in the digital narrative. The results reveal two key utterances: "Siapa bilang habis turun hujan datang pelangi? Bak khe liat sekarang banjir klee"(Who says rain brings a rainbow? Look, now there's flooding) and "Emang iya? Orang Bali gak bisa beli tanah di Bali?"(Really? Balinese people can’t buy land in Bali?). The first utterance reflects poor environmental management leading to flooding, while the second highlights economic inequality that makes it difficult for local Balinese to afford land due to tourism and modernization pressures. These utterances serve as entertaining yet impactful social critiques that raise public awareness about pressing issues such as environmental problems, social justice, and the effects of mass tourism. The study concludes that @Denpasarkeras constructs a digital narrative that highlights Bali's challenges in preserving its cultural identity amidst globalization. These narratives reveal tensions between tradition and modernity while fostering critical discussions on cultural preservation and social policies. This research contributes significantly to the study of social media, culture, and digital discourse, emphasizing the importance of collective awareness in addressing global pressures and sustaining local identities.
