GROWTH AND YIELD OF ELEPHANT GRASS (PENNISETUM PURPUREUM CV. TAIWAN) WHICH GIVEN DIFFERENT DOSAGE OF VERMI COMPOST FERTILZER
Abstrak
This research was conducted to find out the growth and yield of elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum cv.
Taiwan) which was given different dosage of vermi compost fertilizer. Research was conducted in Greenhouse,
Sesetan Research Station, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University. The research conducted for
3 months, using a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and six replications so there
were 30 unit trials. The treatments given were dosage of vermi compost fertilizer consists of 0 t ha
, 5 t
ha
-1
, 10 t ha
-1
, 15 t ha
-1
, and 20 t ha
-1
. Variables observered were growth, yield, and growth characteristic
variables. The results of the research showed that significant different on plant height at dosage 20 tons/ha.
The number of leaves and tillers showed no significant different. Giving of vermi compost fertilizer increased
the dry weight of leaves, stems, roots and total forage showed significant and the highest is at dosage 20
tons/ha. Growing characteristics show no noticeable difference in the ratio of dry weight of leaves with dry
weight of stems and total dry weight ratio of forage with dry root weight but differ noticeably at leaf area
per pot and highest at doses of 20 tons/ha. It can be concluded that elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum
cv. Taiwan) given vermi compost fertilizer at a dose of 20 tons/ha provides better growth and results.
Keywords: growth, yield, elephant grass, vermi compost fertilzer
