POTENSI PRANAYAMA DALAM MEDITASI RAJA YOGA SEBAGAI MODALITAS PENCEGAHAN SERTA TERAPI KOMPLEMENTER PADA PENYAKIT PARU OBSTRUKTIF KRONIS (PPOK)

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Penyakit Paru Obstruktif Kronis (PPOK) merupakan penyakit paru kronis dengan angka morbiditas dan mortalitas ke empat di Dunia berdasarkan data WHO. Berdasarkan Ayurveda: pranayama dalam Meditasi Raja Yoga dapat menjadi salah satu modalitas pencegahan dan terapi komplementer pada PPOK.


Tujuan:Untuk mendeskripsikan potensi pranayama dalam Meditasi Raja Yoga sebagai modalitas pencegahan serta terapi komplementer pada PPOK.


Metode: Metode yang digunakan yaitu studi kepustakaan dengan memasukkan kata kunci pada www.nature.com, www.pubmed.com dan scholar.google.com. Dari 57 jurnal yang ditelaah, 42 jurnal dinilai sesuai dengan topik bahasan, sehingga digunakan sebagai referensi karya.


Pembahasan: Pranayama dalam Meditasi Raja Yoga memiliki potensi pencegahan serta terapi terhadap PPOK. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, pranayama dapat mencegah serangan eksaserbasi dan sesak napas dengan meningkatkan fungsi kerja paru, RMS, FEV1/FVC serta kapasistas paru. Selain itu, pranayama juga efektif mengurangi tingkat cemas, depresi, inflamasi, produksi mukus, meningkatkan imunitas tubuh, serta meningkatkan kualitas hidup pasien, sehingga dapat menjadi terapi komplementer pada pasien PPOK. Pranayama dalam Meditasi Raja Yoga berpotensi sebagai modalitas pencegahan serta terapi komplementer pada PPOK.


Simpulan: Belum terdapat penelitian mengenai modalitas ini. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan penelitian lebih lanjut untuk mengetahui justifikasi dan efek klinis secara pasti dari Meditasi Raja Yoga terhadap PPOK.
