Penelitian ini bermaksud untuk mengetahui karakteristik fisik media tanam hasil pemanfaatan batang pisang dan pengaruh jenis bahan batang pisang terhadap pertumbuhan tanaman kangkung. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan dua faktor perlakuan yaitu jenis bahan batang pisang ((A1) batang asli, (A2) batang semu, (A3) kombinasi batang asli dan semu) dan bentuk akhir media tanam ((B1) serbuk dan (B2) cetakan). Penelitian ini mencangkup enam variasi yang setiap variasinya diulang tiga kali percobaan, dengan total delapan belas unit percobaan. Variabel yang di teliti yakni massa jenis, kapasitas penyerapan air, tingkat keasaman, jumlah daun, tinggi tanaman, lebar daun, serta warna daun. Penelitian ini membuktikan bahwasannya media tanam batang pisang memiliki nilai kapasitas lapang diantara 51,54 % – 62,91% dengan nilai pH berada diantara kisaran nilai pH ideal yaitu antara 5,93 dan 6,23, dan massa jenis ideal dimiliki oleh media tanam batang asli dalam bentuk cetakan (A1B2) dengan nilai 0,43 g/cm3. Jumlah daun tertinggi dihasilkan oleh media tanam batang asli dalam bentuk cetakan (A1B2) dengan nilai rata-rata 10, lebar daun tertinggi dihasilkan oleh media tanam batang semu dalam bentuk serbuk (A2B1), dan warna daun tertinggi dihasilkan oleh media tanam batang asli dalam bentuk cetakan (A1B2) dan media tanam batang semu dalam bentuk serbuk (A2B1) dengan nilai rata-rata 4. Abstract Banana stems have the potential to be used as organic growing media which can facilitate agricultural activities with the application of a hydroponic system. This study aims to determine the physical characteristics of the planting medium resulting from the utilization of banana stems and the effect of the type of banana stem material on growth of water spinach. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) with two treatment factors, namely the type of banana stem material ((A1) true stem, (A2) pseudo stem, (A3) a combination of true and pseudo stem) and the final form of planting medium ((B1) powdered and (B2) print). This study consisted of 6 treatment combinations with each treatment being repeated 3 times, so that 18 experimental units were obtained. Parameters observed were density, field capacity, pH, number of leaves, plant height, leaf width, and leaf color. The results showed that the planting medium for banana stems had a field capacity value of between 51.54% - 62.91% with a pH value in the range of ideal pH values, namely between 5.93 and 6.23, and the ideal density for stem growing media original in printed form (A1B2) with a value of 0.43 g/cm3.
